Cannabis factories – a growing problem!

Advice from National Landlords Association

Police forces across the country have reported a rising number of rented homes being used as illegal factories. As part of National Tackling Drugs Week, the NLA is warning landlords about the dangers of cannabis factories in their rented property.

Cannabis factories can cause catastrophic damage and there is a real danger of insurance companies not always paying out. The property can also become a fire hazard due to amateur electrical wiring and heat involved in the production of the plants.

To help reduce the risk of your property being used for illegal activity, make sure you:

Undertake full references on prospective tenants
Make regular visits to the property (provided you give the tenant sufficient written notice)
Get to know the neighbours and ask them to keep an eye out for anything suspicious
Remember, if you suspect anything do not approach the property but contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
