What is it?

Smartwater is a property marking agent which can be used to mark items which are of value to you. It is invisible to the naked eye and contains numerous minute particles which bear a nine digit code. The code can be read under magnification and these details along with your own are entered onto a database.

Where can I get it?

Smartwater is free to all residents of Nottingham City, and all landlords are being encouraged to get their tenants to take up the service. NCC can supply landlords with Smartwater to distribute to tenants. Contact the burglary reduction team on 0115 9153701 or send an email to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

A bottle of Smartwater is usually only issued to one address, however if you let Houses of Multiple Occupancy, such as student houses, you can have one per tenant. There are a number of other crime prevention resources specifically for students which can be given to landlords on request.

If you live outside the city of Nottingham contact your local police station who will let you know how you can access Smartwater.

What is the benefit?

It has been found that in Nottingham Smartwater is working as a burglary deterrent as properties that have been Smartwatered are rarely burgled. It is important that window stickers are displayed as this gives a clear message to the burglar and means property can be traced to the rightful owner. Smartwater convicts burglars.
