Altinkum (means: golden sand) is a resort town located on the shore of the Aegean sea in Turkey.
The town has three main beaches. Altinkum is popular with British and Turkish tourists.
Altinkum is a very beautiful place and the locals are very friendly, the shops are also nice and produce is at a fair price.
There is a range of bars and restaurants offering a range of Turkish and British food. The beach-side restaurants tend to cater mostly for British Tourists. Further afield in Didim, there is a selection of authentic Turkish restaurants.

Things to do
From boat trips to crazy jeep safaris, you will find plenty to do and see in Altinkum and all ages are catered for. Historic buildings, restaurants, day trips and recommended 2 day trip to Ephesus. It’s not too busy and not too quiet, go, enjoy and come back smiling.
Of course you don’t need to go as far as Ephesus (2 hr journey) to see one of the wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, is just on the doorstep (or at the bus stop) - from anywhere on the main street hop on a dolmus (public minibus) to the Aqua Park or Ormankampi and ask to get off at the Temple - entrance is very, very cheap and there are some lovely restaurants and bazaar-type gift shops nearby where you can pick up lovely handmade goods.
Talking of the Aqua Park, that’s also a dolmus ride away, overlooking the sea out towards the Greek islands. Loads of different slides and pools, to entertain everyone from the very adventurous to the water-shy. There are food courts too so don’t bring a picnic - if you do you will have to leave it at reception anyway as you can’t bring your own refreshments in.
The best-known thing about Altinkum is its amazing beach, 1km of golden sands that gave the resort its name (altin = gold, kum = sand). The water is clean and clear, and slopes down very gently (at least for a while!) so is great for kids and non-swimmers who can paddle around to their hearts’ content. Braver people can enjoy watersports from pedalo hire to parasailing and jetskiing from the main beach and also Third Beach, where two of the resort’s 5 star hotels are located.
Restaurants and cafe-bars are spread all over the resort with the more upmarket or tourist-oriented ones mainly along the beach promenade and the local ones on the main street and in Yenihisar which is the market town joined to Altinkum. It’s pretty hard to find a bad meal so don’t be nervous about trying one that hasn’t been recommended.
For those looking for something more laid-back, there are several Turkish baths in the resort, a great experience & if you’ve never tried one, you must! There are also spas including Turkish baths in the 5 star hotels, where you can also have facials, thai massages and use the other facilities of the hotels.
Alternately how about a boat trip? Altinkum harbour, on the west end of the main beach, has large boats that do multi-group day trips - pick one of these for a lively atmosphere with lots of music and dancing! Or, there are smaller boats available for private hire where you can choose the mood yourself - great for a romantic surprise, birthday party, fishing trip or whatever.
The marina is now finished and getting packed with international yachtsmen and expensive yachts. Soon to come are the two 18-hole golf courses. The locations of the two golf courses in Didim have now been chosen and the first-level analysis done of the areas.
